Sheer delight + bike short fright
Me wanting to dress more experimentally and bravely in 2010 has culminated in the above outfit. I have wanted bike shorts for a while and finally found some at Savers for $3 the other day. Yes I washed them before wearing them because 2nd hand bike shorts is just a tad gross. I think the combination with the sheer dress would have been more flattering if the shorts were a bit more high waisted and perhaps longer in the leg, but I did like that you can see through the sheer fabric to my small waist line. This also may be the first time my knees have been exposed on my blog not covered up by tights or leggings, what a brave new world 2010 is. The dress is new purchase, from a sale shopping spree with Henry to Somewhere, the new sister store to Somedays in Sydney, both of whom sell Swedish designers such as Fith Avenue Shoe Repair and Velour who are the designers of my dress. I love its simplicity and in person the cut is very flattering, skimming over my hips and accentuating my waist. I like the juxtaposition of the sexiness of my visible bra with the simplicity of the sophisticated dress but for regular day wear I plan on wearing a slip underneath.
Outfit Details:
Dress: Velour from Somewhere on sale down from $180 to $90
Black Wedges: Urban Outfitters $70AUD
Bike shorts: Savers $3
Necklace: Make Believe gift
Lipstick: Prestige Vinylwear High Shine Lipgloss in VW-35 Opalescence

ReplyDeletegorgeous! I love how your lipstick matches the color of the shirt.
ReplyDeletewell done :)

Fuck yes Hayley, that colour looks amazing on you, I am so proud of you for taking chances because you look fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI have a similar look drafted in my archives called "Things I would wear if I were brave enough to leave the house in them" and here you are showing me how it's done!! High five!
Awesome! :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous - again, I just love your lippy. It just lights up face in the way a good red lippie is meant to...
ReplyDeleteyou look banging!!! glad the lips are back again!! love you're outfit, completely rocking it. :)
ReplyDeleteHell yeah! I actually foresee bike shorts, sheer tops and exposed bras as a bit of a trend for fat girls this year. I wish I was as brave as you, but I am a couple of sizes bigger and I fear the repercussions of taking my exposed self on the streets. It's a sucky world when it's not "just fashion" and it's about safety, but I'll totally be rocking the more risque styling at private functions :D
ReplyDeleteAside, I have a pair of fake glasses like that too... I bought them from Giant Vintage... I effing love that site.
You are rocking the sheer look and the look is awesome! Also, you are nowhere near as big as others have made you out to be (ala bitchy comments in the past) so you look smokin'! I'm moving on to plum lippie as well, I've exhausted my red lippie resources :) xo
ReplyDeleteyou look great Hayley! love that different loook you have today! x
ReplyDeleteWith that coy smile you like fucking sex.
ReplyDeleteHere's to 2010!

ReplyDeleteGood on you Hayley, you look ace! I would normally be scared of sheer but you've shown me how it's done with style.

Hot! Beautiful lipstick, and a beautiful combo.
ReplyDeleteFantastic! Well done! (maybe you can investigate more bike short design? I dont think there's many other designs than silky and black. I do like leggings with lace bottoms though.) I love the pattern on the dress! For a moment I thought it was lens flare.

ReplyDeleteWhat is fashion if it's not about experimenting and being daring.
ReplyDeleteAfter watching you on Today Tonight, I have much respect for people like yourself who can represent the 'real' people like us.
The colour combination between the red lipstic to that sheer dress, black, & a touch of gold necklace are simply PERFECTION!

"After watching you on Today Tonight, I have much respect for people like yourself who can represent the 'real' people like us."
ReplyDeleteJust because someone is thin doesn't make them any less real than people who are bigger. If someone commented on a thin girl and said "I am so glad you represent real girls" people would go ape shit. On Today Tonight the designer stated "size 8 dresses do not fit well on a size 16 girl" and this is true. So designers make things especially for girls a little larger to flatter them more. Fashion isn't just about seeing a cool dress and wearing it regardless of how ridiculous it may look. It is about wearing clothes to flatter the person as well as projecting their personal style. The whole thin girls being any less real thing really irks me. Being thin or large shouldn't dictate what the real representation of what a female is.
This is not an attack I just find that comment extremely hypocritical.
I super love this Hayley! I think you coulda easily done the 'safe' thing and worn black on top, but that red just looks AMAZING! I love how it's sheer too. Go experimentation for 2010!
