Win a Babushka necklace by Stolen Thunder
I love Babushka dolls, and can spend hours looking at them at that Babushka doll shop in the Royal Arcade (yes there is a shop that only sells Babushka dolls!) I even have a Babushka doll bedspread! So when I was sent this Russian doll family necklace from the people over at Stolen Thunder in England I was very very excited. First of all their stuff is handmade, which I love, secondly its all so cute! You really should check out the sale stuff too, so good (um hello £1.50 cocktail rings, you can buy 1 for every finger!).
As much as I love the necklace I feel that its not fair that I get to have all the fun, so I have decided to give it away to 1 lucky reader, as I really appreciate all of you for taking the time and reading my blog.
To WIN just leave a comment on this post with an answer to:
What, if anything, is it that you collect?
I collect anything red for the home, hence the red Babushka dolls. So our whole house is full of red stuff such as red vases, red plates, red cups, red Kokeshi dolls, a red retro mix master, a red sofa etc... it all gets a bit much really. I have discovered there is such a thing as too much of a good thing, but I can't stop.
The winner will be drawn at random on Sunday 31st January and you are in the running as long as you answer the question in the comments section on this post. International readers can enter too.
Good luck xxx

Oh I collect historical items of clothing from 1900 back and I also collect vintage records :)
ReplyDeletehi hayley, i love babushka dolls too, i have a few different sets but wouldn't say that i collect them....i guess if anything, i'm a designer so i collect fabric!
ReplyDeleteAh that's adorable! I collect doilies. Whenever I go to an op shop I usually come out with a bag full!
ReplyDeletei am a bit of a packrat really. i collect vintage russian cameras. buttons. doilys. and have 10 different sets of matryoshka which i picked up in my travels around eastern europe. oh and handbags. i am really good at being a packrat.
ReplyDeleteI've just started collecting different postcards from all the overseas cities I've travelled to. At the moment the collection is very small (just started travelling) but so far I've collected Los Angeles, Las Vegas and New York City (the greatest place on earth, after Melbourne of course)!
ReplyDeleteThat's so funny that you posted about this, I've just finished a post about my collection of Babusha dolls. I always try to find one whenever I travel anywhere. My first was from when I visiting Melbourne, from the Royal Arcade store! My most recent was from Miyajima island in Japan.
ReplyDeleteits soo cute!

I actually collect dolls! Russian dolls and kokeshi dolls mainly, but I have a few notrealkokeshibutinspiredby Momiji dolls too.
ReplyDeleteThis is where they live:http://i367.photobucket.com/albums/oo117/missdollymixx/017-16.jpg
I have more now, I got quite a few for Christmas! Love anything doll related too, so would love to win this necklace! I also got a russian doll hot waterbottle for Christmas, I think I am slightly obsessed!

That necklace is incredible!
ReplyDeleteI collect books. There is nothing in this world that I love more (at least, nothing material) than a good book. Although I keep most of the books that I didn't enjoy as well. Each book holds a memory, whether it was an event going on in my life at the time or an emotion I might have being feeling.
It's also the cheapest way for me to travel, haha.
funnily enough i collect babushka dolls! i have about 15 so far and also love that shop in royal arcade, it is amazing. i had in the past collected salt & pepper shakers and snow globes, but it is too easy to run out of room for so many knick knacks!
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit like you... except I collect white ornaments/furniture! I have a pink room, so white is the perfect color for everything :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway Hayley, and congrats for the Cleo article - Well deserved!
I L0VE Babushka's (and I am constrantly saying the word - it's so fun to pronounce). Last year I decided that I was going to make it my mission in life to try and collect a Babushka doll from every place I visit (as in go on holiday not EVERY place I visit - ie. Woolies). Anyway, so far I have 1, from Darwin - haha. I don't think I will actually be able to find a Babushka in every exotic country I plan on travelling too but a girl can dream can't she?
ReplyDeleteApart from that the only other thing I collect is utterly shameful - Road to Avonlea novelisations from the 90's tv show! There are about 30 in the series and I have found about 17 online (the episodes I really love) and have decided I will leave the others for me to find in the future - I am sure there are hundreds hiding out there just waiitng for a second hand shop or garage sale to come my way.
OK back in my box now.
PS. Congrats on Chloe. Tis great :-)
oh my gaw i really love this! i love babushka dolls. i have some cute stickers of some from japan.
ReplyDeletethings i collect: tea cups, lace doily things, clothes!, vinyl, clip on bow ties, and i just started collecting vintage wind up toys- i just have one so far but he is a symbol clapping bear. and umm yes all this collecting is getting out of hand!

xxx
I remember babushka dolls, my mum loved them so I would love to give the necklace to her!
ReplyDeleteAnyways, I collect shoes. Stilettos to be exact, and even though half of them I havent worn, and probably never will, I just think shoes can transform something so plain, into a true work of art.
*sigh* I really do just love them!
I collect stamps in my passport. I love the feeling I get when I flick back through the pages of my passport and recall the adventures I've had in faraway lands! I hope to collect many more <3
ReplyDeleteI love collecting Swarovski crystal figurines...and they in turn like to collect dust!
ReplyDeleteBut I do wish I had more!
vintagefokus.blogspot.com
I love Babooshka dolls too!
ReplyDeleteI collect fridge magnets from everywhere I go.. the cheesier the location, the better the magnet!
(Take Port Lincoln Tuna magnets for example)
This collection has gone so far, that I think I’ve doubled the weight of my fridge door, nothing will stop me! Only when the door falls off the hinge! I’d prefer to buy a secondary ‘drinks’ fridge to continue the tradition, than give in.
I even have a babooshka fridge magnet in my collection!
I love collecting pocket watches and wearing them as necklaces :)
ReplyDeleteI am a certified shoe collector. No, but really, I love a fine pair of shoes.
ReplyDeleteWhat I'm working on now is expanding my boot collection.
I collect "traditional" or local shoes when I'm travelling (or if friends offer to pick something up while overseas). So I have a display shelf above my desk with shoes from Japan, Morocco, India, Thailand, etc.
ReplyDeletei collect dvds (especially sets of my favourite directors films), posters (fantastic ads, movies i've liked, politicians i admire). i also have a stamp collection that goes way back.
ReplyDeleteI am a crazed collector and for as long as i can remember I have kept mismatched, very unimportant and peculiar collections. For a long time I collected train tickets and had hundreds of them. At first Id only keep those belonging to both friends and myself but this got out of hand so I had to limit myself to those only used by me. I kept buttons of bazar shapes and colours, I even stored them in organised little compartments. Rocks, semi precious stones, jewelry, yo-yos, old records, belt buckles, polaroid photographs; the list of collectables I have dabbled in stretches on forever. I think a more appropriate question for me would be: What, if anything, is it that you haven't collected?
ReplyDeleteThey are lovely! I collect old sewing books from op shops, but they can't cost over $5. I also collect fabric, but I'm trying to put some brakes on that collection.
ReplyDeleteSO PRETTY!
ReplyDeleteI collect pictures (digital and print) of the house out of Hansel and Gretel. I guess I wish I lived in a house made of candy. xx
i love babuskas! there is a store in melbourne that i just drool over any time i'm there because it is wall to wall babushka.
ReplyDeleteI collect owls :) prints, ceramics, jewellry, clothes, toys everything!
Babushka's are gorgeous! There is something so special about them.
ReplyDeleteI collect teacups (in kitchy floral prints) it makes having friends over for a cup of tea extra special :)
I'm a counsellor.I collect people's stories.
ReplyDeleteOooh, cute. I collect books, especially fashion books. I just don't feel right if I'm not reading at least three books at the same time.
ReplyDeleteThe necklace is soo cute! I love russian dolls I have one set from my childhood thats been a pretty constant fixture in my decor.
ReplyDeleteI collect cat statues, magazines and books :)
I collect a bunch of things but at the moment it's promotional movie postcards.
ReplyDeleteI collect little paper stuff lile concert cards, and postcards, and paper ou wrapp gifts in, even if just a tiny bit of paper I like is left I collect it. Same with beautiful flyers I get in the city of pages from magazine.
ReplyDeleteThen sometimes I make a pictures put of all the bits.
Hi Hayley, I collect postcards. I've been travelling around Europe recently and my boyfriend gets so annoyed every time I spot a tourist stand and insist on buying more postcards... :-)
ReplyDeleteI collect paintings and prints of birds. My latest is a glass paperweight with a paiting of a bluebird inside. A gift from my husband.
ReplyDeleteps the necklace is VERY cute
Currently collecting:

Unusual tea cups. I have so many individual little tea cups with saucers from all over the world. Japanese bone china covered in fish, little three-legged pink and gold tulips, French country peasents, a black and gold art deco. They're on display in various book shelves and I use them to throw tea parties, since even though I drink it, I also collect teas.

Thanks Hayley!
xo
Funnily enough, my family has a ridiculous amount of babushka dolls. Some that belonged to great grandparents, and a suitcase full of those that my sister brought back when she moved home from Russia.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I collect horses. My favourite being a tiny red hand painted wooden horse my best friend sent me from Sweden.
I love your blog by the way, such an inspiration.
I collect Shoes, shoes glorious shoes....
ReplyDeleteI collect punch bowl sets, you know, the ones from the 70s with the intricately decorated glass bowl and matching cups. Pretty much every op shop ever has them!
ReplyDeleteI originally just wanted one set because they're so kitschy and I love them, but then whenever I saw one at an op shop I just HAD to buy it.. and now I collect them.
Wow, I love your site! I have to admit to collecting swizzle sticks haha yes that's right, those funny little plastic contraptions that they put in your cocktails across the globe. My collection is slowly building up and my favourite is these little red pitchfork ones - they're the best (I could definately spare one towards your 'red' collection if needed too hehe).
ReplyDeletei'm actually batshit insane. I collect cats. porcelaine cat figurines and pictures. I had an entire corner/wall for them in my old house. I even had photos of my cats in a photo exhibition. it's somewhat comforting, wouldn't you say? having something thats yours, something that makes you happy, something you can look at and feel at home. That's what my cats are to me
ReplyDeletei've been to the babushka store in the royal arcade, it's soo good!!

That necklace is LOVELY!
ReplyDeleteI collect vintage tea-sets, records and old magazines. When I was younger I used to collect really old girls' annuals and have a pretty big stash. Something I'm very glad about now as you can't see them anywhere in the UK!
i collect retro homewares from hard rubbish! it's a really hit-and-miss kind of hobby, but so far i've found some fantastic wooden sanyo stereo speakers, an old singer sewing machine, a wood-panelled tape deck, a small wooden heater (/blow-dryer, depending on my needs), an office desk from the 60's and an old, wooden foosball table game.
ReplyDelete(i felt it would be too predictable to say i collect babushka-related trinkets, which i also do!)
xo
Bags from thrift stores - my weakness!
ReplyDeleteI love that babushka shop!
ReplyDeleteI collect owls. I have owl everything. Owl pens, stationery, stuffed teddies, owl finger puppets, owl figurines (antique, asian, modern), owl salt and pepper shakers, owl necklaces and earrings, heck, I even have a flying barn owl tattooed on my left hip! I'm hopelessly obsessed.
Children's encyclopaedias - the kitschier the illustrations, the better - and anything dachshund (bar an actual sausage dog, which is of course the ultimate dream). My family has caught on so now I'm receiving all sorts of dachsundalia at birthdays and Christmas - porcelain figurines, stamps, brooches, keyrings...
ReplyDeleteI don't know what happened but I don't see my comment! First I commented from my sisters account by accident then recomment with my own! Anyway I'll just comment again!

Hello Fashion Hayley!
ReplyDeleteI am also one of those killers for Babushka dolls or 'Russian dolls' I can just stare at them for hours because they have so much detail and they also look great anywhere in your home!
I also love your givaway! It would look great with everything. even just a simple plain tee!
xo Emma.
Hello Fashion Hayley.
ReplyDeleteI am such a sucker for teapots, I have about a million of them. I love all the nice patterns and different shapes and sizes. I'm also a big sucker for little childrens books! like the golden ones. I usually make wrapping paper out of them to make them look fun and uinque!
Hey,
ReplyDeleteI think that the fact that you collect red stuff for your house is an excellent idea - it means everything matches.
I collect teas. Senchas, oolongs and Pouchongs, etc...from all over the world. I have a teacase, much like a bookcase, except filled with tea.
Great choice of necklace for a prize, btw. Good luck choosing! Looks like there are a lot of candidates.
see you hayley!
Funnily enough, I actually collect babushka dolls! They decorate my studio, tucked onto the shelves amongst all my felt and shiny baubles. Some of them I have painted myself too, and I let the occasional kokeshi doll sneak into the mix. I also have babushka motifs worked around the house on cushions, bed linen, notebooks, etc.
ReplyDeleteSo, naturally I'd love to win the necklace - it'd be the perfect accessory to fuel my obsession!
I collect cute cow animal/cow print stuff. From keyrings to bedspreads to clothing to shoes to lamps to pencilcases etcetcetc. Currently hunting for a cow wallet. =P
ReplyDeleteHi there! I collect scruffy Enid Blyton books and clothing/jewellery speckled in strawberries. Also French dictionaries, though that was hardly a deliberate effort...
ReplyDeleteI collect old cameras
ReplyDeleteI collect rubber ducks and toy seals. Why? Er, why not? :D
ReplyDeletei collect owls. my grandmother has always collected them and i started collecting them as well about 10 years ago. i also collect dust. :/
ReplyDeleteOther than clothes and accessories, I collect train tickets, or travel passes.
ReplyDeleteI'm not British, but I lived in the UK for a few years for my studies, and I grew to love train journeys, no matter how short. I usually ask the (hopefully!) nice man at the ticket barrier if I can keep my ticket, and thankfully, they usually say that it's alright!
After a while, I usually go through them and write random anecdotes of the journey on the back of the ticket. They make for pretty amusing reading after a couple of years :-) I still have the ticket from my first train journey from Eastbourne to Brighton to see my sister!

ReplyDeleteWow what a fantastic giveaway.
ReplyDeleteThanks Hayley
I collect kokeshi dolls and have just started collecting cameras, I think this will be a slow growing collection though.
I have a 15 month old daughter and she is collecting Kewpie dolls, not sure if she realises this yet, but she does have a favourite that comes everywhere with us.
I collect hearts of glass... More tangibly(!), I'm trying to get a penguin 1-10 print run on every iris murdoch novel they've published. she was so damn prolific as a writer! Haven't decided whether this includes essays and non fiction (which means it probably will).
ReplyDeleteNecklace is super cute, massive love for the rest of the blog too
Love from London
M
I collect pins. Pins from the places that I visited and collectible pins. It started when my parents brought me to travel with them when I was a kid. As toys and clothes are disposable, they asked me to but pins instead. Since then, everytime I go to new places or see collectible pins, I will buy it.
ReplyDeleteHope I'm not too late to enter.
ReplyDeleteI collect snowglobes.
I never buy any, but anytime my mum goes anywhere (and she travels alot) she always brings one back for me.
Hi Hayley
ReplyDeleteNot too sure if you know but the dolls are actually called Matroushka dolls, not babushka dolls. As babushka actually mean grandmother.
I know this because my family is from Belarus, a country near russia.
BUT they are awesome dolls and i dont know, they make you happy somehow!
Hi hayley........omg are you sure your name is not Sarah heheh........I have an obsession with all things red and babushkas.
