The Valley

Photobucket
My favourite boutique in Brisbane was Subfusco. Located at 692 Ann Street Fortitude Valley, the shop could be transported to any of the worlds fashion capitals and feel right at home.

From the window to the interior the store exudes style. This dynamic window display was a collaborative project with a nearby bar. That's something I really noticed in Brisbane, a real feeling of community and a willingness to do new things.

The racks are cleverly designed with holes cut out for the coat hangers to hang perfectly spaced for ultimate shopability.

The white space invites itself to minimal design.

The accessories cabinet is filled with suitably brooding silver rings.

The store and label is the brainchild of Josh, who perfectly embodies the brand with the dark architectural way he dresses.

For breakfast recommendations flew in for the Flamingo Cafe, 5b Winn Street Fortitude Valley. Relatively new on the scene this place is the locals go to for not only all day breakfast (my favourite) and great coffee, but for its funky fit out. With its indoor/outdoor setting, astro turf flooring, Kartell stools and cutesy yellow and white striped awnings Flamingo is delightfully kitsch and knows it.

We sat at this cute yellow plastic with blue polka dot picnic table.

And ate a delicious hearty breakfast. Mine was the avocado toast with a side of mushrooms, mmmmm yum.

After a whirlwind 20 hour visit I really hope I get to go back to Brisbane to explore more of The Valley and hopefully even make it into the city centre next time, but really who needs to when The Valley is just so good.

  1. is it moral to be given a free dress in a contest you judge?

  2. Everyone who is attending the awards judges for the audience choice finalist, then there is a panel of judges who choose the other 2 finalists, a panal of which I'm not part of. You may note that Subfusco didn't make it to the finals. So there is no weight to your argument.

  3. Yeah - the Valley is awesome. You're not really missing much if you didn't make it into the city, I think... although I haven't explored it for a while.

  4. glad to hear that you like brissy so much! I really need to try Flamingo cafe sometime... it's funny how much I still need to discover about this city even after living here for 5 years :)

When you come back, don't bother with the city unless you are looking to shop chain stores. Head to West End for some cool little boutiques and plenty of amazing places to eat/drink. Plus you can't go past west end for some crazy people watching!

  7. Definitely visit West End (as mentioned in a comment above) it is great for people watching! Brisbane's city itself isn't that great - don't have too high expectations.

If you're in the Valley again hit up the Valley Markets! You'll find the information all over Google if you're not familiar with them.

    Love your blog x

  9. Love the unique breakfast place and your unique spin on fashion and style.

I've found this great new styling program online. It provides you with a customised style guide tailored to suit your body shape and age. It's really affordable and I just feel amazing with my new look. It teaches you to make the most of your wardrobe and how to shop smarter so you're not wasting money buying clothes you're not going to wear. You should have a look and see for yourself www.myprivatestylist.com
