The Claw

Photobucket
A few weeks ago I got sent this awesome claw cuff from Lovisa and I haven't taken it off since (except to shower and sleep). You may notice I'm not wearing my wedding ring, I have decided its ugly and have taken to wearing a ring Henry bought be at the MOMA design store in NYC when we were there in 2006. I mean, its still a ring he bought me, so what's the difference? (also Henry doesn't like my wedding ring either so I'm not being mean) Plus this red ring is pretty awesome, its shaped like a diamond ring and its cut from acrylic. I don't understand people who can wear the same ring for years, I get bored so quickly. My black nail polish is from Sephora from my recent trip to NYC. My other bangle is my Elke Kramer baby, the love of my life.

The Lovisa claw in all its clawy goodness. Loving it silly.

  2. Everyone's been hyping the crap out of Lovisa, I was so excited to check a store out but when I got there I was painfully disappointed.
The store layout looked just like the normal Diva outlets and the jewellery wasn't much different either - cheap in both price and quality.
Also, these chains terrify me as a jewellery designer. We all know Diva aren't above ripping off indie designers and Lovisa are ripping off high end designers...
Between the two, am I going to be next? Or maybe Estelle?
    Ughhh.

  3. Hey I also have that very same acrylic ring you sport, from MoMa too; it's like wearing a piece of [affordable] art - how lovely to wear it as your wedding ring!
And have you seen the new Elke range? I completely fell for them during MSFW and have since picked up a ring I'm mad for. want. more.

  4. I won't get tired of my wedding ring because it's a plain thin gold band of the utmost simplicity, and also because of course it is a symbol of all kinds of good things. My engagement ring on the other hand - I never wear it because it's not really very "me" but I just found out that my husband has been feeling bad about me not wearing it, for years and years! So now I'm wearing it again to make him feel better. Ah well.

  6. I thought a wedding ring was supposed to symbolise commitment...of trying to push past the bad (or boredom)

  7. I'm with you on the wedding ring thing. I started with my nan's - loved it, but it wasn't me. Got an el cheopo from etsy to work out what size suited me best and I now wear it on my holidays. And now i have settled on one nice one that's not a solitare diamond(boring).

  9. I totes understand a woman wearing other rings (given to her by her husband) instead of her wedding ring on occasion. The ring is just a symbol and if you're husband is cool with it then go for it!

I like to swap my wedding and engagement rings out myself. My wedding ring is a beautiful are deco piece in white gold, while my engagement ring is a unique emerald design in traditional yellow gold. Both passed down to my husband by grandparents.

That claw bracelet is fabulous! I would think you would have a hard time bumping into someone else with the same thing on.

  11. I bought one of those about a month ago! I get so many comments on it. I love that it looks like something a bit creepy is grasping my arm.

  12. I don't know why but I'm not really comfortable wearing something like this... :-) It is menacing and it looks kind of wild or edgy, but I'm just not really into that. Great on you, though!

  13. Cool cuff! And quite thin and delicate, which is just lovely.

And I agree, the pool party from your previous post totally looks like it was channelling the uber-coolness of LA. I love your fringed swimsuit.

  14. I do love the cuff - But its a complete copy of Pamela Love http://www.pamelalovenyc.com/

Like Alicia said - I am a small designer too and chain brands scare me - its not fair - they have all the money and resources to create something original and they have to copy the struggling artists (not saying that's what Pamela Love is)

I stopped buying from chain stores long ago - until I find one that is ethical, original and fair trade I won't support that industry
